I had a lot of questions last week about making trees. I gave one simple solution to a few of you. The result was less than optimal and left little room for error. This week I will demonstrate creating a low polygon tree model. Using Cinema 4D and MoGraph and a little time and ‘effort’, I was able to create the tree in the pictures below using about 2000 polygons total. A little high for in game frame rates, but very low for a 3 second animation. A little post blur work was done to add a bit of DOF to the images. One thing to note here is the lighting and environment (fog)… Remember, when experimenting always set up your lighting to compliment your image. More shadows and a lower angle source light really help set a more dramatic mood and take the focus off of any inconsistencies you may have with the detail of a low-poly model. I will be doing the demonstration on Tuesday. Come to class prepared to listen, follow and learn.
