My location has changed and so has my institution of learning. I will be updating this blog with a new logo and an updated class syllabus. Expect new downloadable models and materials. Please comment for what you would like to see this blog offer. Cheers, Mr. Mac

I am not going to say much about this and let the article author that I am linking to give you a bit more info, Click here to read it via Gizmodo . Don’t forget to watch the trailor, SAWEEEEEET! Although, you could just download the game and give your own review in the comments.

I can’t wait until Apple allows a manufacturer to create a clip on game pad for the iPhone. When this happens, so long, PSP and DS….

The picture below is ripped off from Gizmodo.com’s site, which I believe was taken from a more extensive article that included quotes from Doom’s creator and ‘id’ founder John Carmack and was writen by author Dean Takahashi at games.venturebeat.com

Your semester projects were due today. If you have not spoken to me for an extension, then I will assume that you are finished. All material on your drive will be reviewed and your results will be posted on Friday, June 5th. I will be posting the top animation on this site. Thanks for your hard work this year and I hope you consider taking Graphics II or Projects next year. Cheers, Mr. Mac

PS: I have procured a grant for a new Apple computer next year. This should make video and sound editing a lot more enjoyable. Returning students will have priority. ;)

The demo was good, and the full game is a powerful experience in what it is to be a hero, or a villain. With strong characters, beautiful graphics, and a good selection of things to do and see, this is one of the best open world titles in recent memory.” By Ben Kuchera

Low Polygon Tree

I had a lot of questions last week about making trees. I gave one simple solution to a few of you. The result was less than optimal and left little room for error. This week I will demonstrate creating a low polygon tree model. Using Cinema 4D and MoGraph and a little time and ‘effort’, I was able to create the tree in the pictures below using about 2000 polygons total. A little high for in game frame rates, but very low for a 3 second animation. A little post blur work was done to add a bit of DOF to the images. One thing to note here is the lighting and environment (fog)… Remember, when experimenting always set up your lighting to compliment your image. More shadows and a lower angle source light really help set a more dramatic mood and take the focus off of any inconsistencies you may have with the detail of a low-poly model. I will be doing the demonstration on Tuesday. Come to class prepared to listen, follow and learn.
